Insurance Answers for Arizona Businesses and Families
Most insurance content online is written to rank, not to help. It's national boilerplate that doesn't account for Arizona's ROC licensing requirements, Utah's contractor rules, or the coverage gaps that actually cost local business owners money.
We write about what our clients ask us. When a contractor calls because a GC is demanding a specific additional insured endorsement and they don't know what that means, we write about it. When a small business owner isn't sure whether their BOP is enough, we cover that too. Every post here is written for someone in Arizona or Utah making a real coverage decision — not a hypothetical reader somewhere in the country.

Arizona has its own regulatory environment, its own weather exposures, and its own contractor licensing structure. Utah does too. We don't pull generic content from a national template and swap in a city name. Every post here is written with the specific rules, carriers, and conditions that apply to our clients — because that's the only kind of advice worth reading.
If you're a contractor trying to understand your ROC insurance requirements, a small business owner wondering whether your current policy actually covers your operation, or a homeowner trying to make sense of your options, you're in the right place.
How do I know if I have the right business insurance in Arizona?
Start by looking at what your contracts and licenses require — ROC-licensed contractors, for example, must carry specific minimum limits. Beyond compliance, the right coverage depends on your industry, your payroll, whether you have a physical location, and what risks you face day to day. If you're not sure, that's a good reason to talk to an independent agent who can review what you have and flag what's missing.
What's the difference between a surety bond and insurance?
Insurance is designed to pay for losses you suffer — property damage, liability claims, injuries. A surety bond is a financial guarantee that you'll fulfill a contractual obligation. If you don't, the bond pays the party you were working for, and you're responsible for reimbursing the bond company. Many Arizona contractors need both: insurance to cover their own risk exposure, and a bond to satisfy licensing or project requirements.
Do Arizona contractors need different insurance than contractors in Utah?
The core coverages — general liability, workers comp, commercial auto — apply in both states, but the specific requirements, minimum limits, and licensing rules differ. Arizona's ROC has its own insurance requirements for licensed contractors. Utah has its own licensing structure and thresholds. If you're working in both states, your policies need to reflect both sets of requirements, which is something we handle regularly for our dual-state clients.
How often should I review my business insurance coverage?
At a minimum, review your coverage annually at renewal. But you should also take a look any time your business changes significantly — adding employees, buying equipment, taking on a new type of work, or signing a contract with new insurance requirements. Coverage that was right two years ago may have gaps today.
